Celebrating an anniversary of The Shepherd’s Market.
Founded in 2012, The Shepherd’s Market is a client-choice food pantry serving the hungry and needy in south Baton Rouge. The pantry is open Mondays from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-10 a.m.
The Shepherd’s Market serves 50 families per day, or 400 families per month. Our focus area includes zip codes 70808, 70809, 70810 and 70820, but we serve any family in need.
Our mission statement: We are a welcoming space connecting individuals and families in our community to resources for the improvement of their health and wellness.
The Shepherd’s Market is one of only two client-choice food pantries in Baton Rouge, and it is the only client-choice food pantry to offer an evening shift (Mondays). Additionally, we maintain The Shepherd’s Garden, where we grow and harvest fresh produce for our clients.
Our food pantry is 100% volunteer-run, which means every donated dollar is spent directly on food and household items for the families in need.
The Shepherd’s Market is the largest project of Opening Doors, a Louisiana Nonprofit Corporation. Opening Doors is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, and all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. We operate on the St. John’s United Methodist Church campus.
