The Great Turkey Giveaway

Volunteers at the 2014 Great Turkey Giveaway

Each year The Shepherd’s Market has been able to provide lagniappe, or a little something extra, to our clients in the form of our Great Turkey Giveaway. On the Saturday before Christmas we provide families with a complete turkey dinner. This exciting event brings our community together to celebrate the joy of the season.

Saturday, December 17, 2016, will be the 6th Annual Great Turkey Giveaway!

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: We will need plenty of volunteers as this year we will be set up in a drive-through pattern in the side parking lot bringing the turkeys and groceries to the cars instead of folks standing in line to come into the gym. Because of this, in addition to all of the food duty volunteers and the check-in volunteers, we will need volunteers to direct traffic into and out of the parking lot.
Please consider helping us with this community-wide mission on Saturday, December 17 (volunteers are being asked to be at the back entrance of the Family Life Center between 7:30 and 8 a.m.). Contact Theresa Sandifer for more information.
Would you like to help us feed 600 families with a turkey dinner at Christmas time? You can feed a family for $15, or you can make a contribution for another amount. We appreciate your support!

Our previous annual giveaways have been big successes. Each year we give away 450 loaves of homemade bread (thanks to Duane Craig), 450 turkeys each with a blessing tag, 450 bags of fresh produce from the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, and 450 bags of side items to complete holiday meals! What a great day of service with more than 75 volunteers. Thank you to everyone!
